Spent some time trolling youtube while I was flat on my back and found some great Gram Parsons videos that I wanted to share. Gram has slowly become one of my all time favorite musicians and these are just a few of my favorites that I found. I only included either actual concert footage (very rare) and official music videos.

Ebay
Ebay, being the awesome monster that it is had just what I was looking for. But, there was a catch....it was a four week long auction. That's right, 28 days!
Now, since I really want a copy of this album I will keep an eye on it. But, what the hell is the point of a four week auction? Sure you can drum up interest, watch the price slowly creep ever so close to your dream high bid! In the end though you have a wait a damn long time to get your crap sold.
I guess if you were looking for a quick buck you could turn to a pawn shop or craigslist. But, four weeks seems like a long time to wait for something to sell that may only bring in $20-$30. Personally I'm more inclined to pay a stupid amount for an item if I get into a last second bidding war with someone. If I have to remember to tune in a month down the road to find out what happened I'm probably going to forget about it.
To me the month long auction for anything that has a starting bid under $100 is a waste of time. Now, if you are unloading a car...or even this rare Elvis gem I can see letting it linger for a while. But, if you have a month long (or more) bid time on a used cd that you can get at your local record shop for $7.99 you're just kidding youself. Granted most of those have the buy it now price set at under $2...so I kinda get that. Still crazy in my book.
Things have changed since I was selling on ebay about 10 years ago....at least you don't have to pay a fee to start the auction (up to 50 auctions a month). But, you still get the honor of handing over a percentage of the final price to ebay, for their service!
If you are looking for cash, and have a ton of merchandise to drop, I can see this being a decent plan of attack. Me, personally, I just take the crap I don't need and walk into my local Zia Records, or Bookman's and take my chances that I will walk out with a decent amount of cash or store credit.
But, I digress, what was the point I was trying to make at first? Oh, now I remember...there's some dumb ass auctions on ebay.
Enough said...now I need to get back to some last second bidding.

Record Store Day
RECORD STORE DAY!!!
What makes this day different than any other day of the year at you local store? Well, if they are participating they will probably have a ton of Record Store Day promo items, in store contests and possible live music or appearances by local and national artists.
If I was back in Illinois I would be spending my hard earned cash at Exile on Main Street in Champaign. If you are in the Champaign area I say stop in since Talib Kweli will be doing an in store appearance before his show that evening at the Canopy Clubs. But, since I am in the Valley of the Sun I will be dropping into my local Zia Records to avail myself of some of the great deals.
The one item that I have my eye on is a 7" vinyl that has Gram Parsons and EmmyLou Harris with the Fallen Angels band on the A side doing "Love Hurts" and Jenny and Johnny on the B side doing the same track.
Other great Record Store Day items include: more Gram Parsons in the form of the International Submarine Band's "Safe at Home", Mumford & Sons / Laura Marling full LP and many more...
Basically, it's a fun excuse to head to the record store, act like the true music snob you are, pick up some killer tunes on vinyl, and support those independent record stores that keep on keeping on!!

Random Musical thoughts
Looking through my iPod the other day I got thinking about totally random musically related things! Thwhat things? Well, I got thinking aboutt what's the longest song on my iPod? What's the shortest song that would actually qualify as a song not a song intro/interlude? What's artist has the most songs on my iPod?
I also got thinking about songs that confused me once I actually listened to the words!!
Longest song: Iron Butterfly -- In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida 17:02
Shortest Song: The Beatles -- Her Majesty 0:29
Most songs: It a Tie between Gram Parsons and The Beatles at 88 songs each
Songs that confused me when I finally actually listened to the lyrics:
Billy Joel -- Only the Good Die Young. While it's pretty obvious what this song is about now...there was a long time that I was completely ignorant about what was going on.. "Come out come out come out Virgina don't let me wait, You Catholic girls start much too late, Sooner or later it comes down to fate, I might as well be the one, You know that only the good die young, " Really, how did I miss that one?
Herman's Hermits -- Silhouettes. Always thought of this as a catchy little tune. Sang along for years! But, what seemed to escape me for the longest time was the following, "Lost control and rang your bell, I was sore,et me in or else I'll beat down your door, When two strangers who have been two silhouettes on the shade, Said to my shock 'you're on the wrong block' ". Essentially what you have here is a guy who boarders on obsessive/stalker. Granted he does get bounced out of the stalker category since it seems he really does have a relationship with the girl he thought he was watching. But, seriously this guy is just about one bad weekend away from a Temporary Restraining Order!
The Police -- Every Breath You take. Speaking of stalker songs, "Every breath you take and every move you make, Every bond you break, Every step you take, I'll be watching you, Every single day and every word you say, Every game you play, Every night you stay, I'll be watching you, Oh can't you see you belong to me?" Okay...so maybe I did see this one coming a mile away. Let's face the facts. This should be the national theme song for stalkers and their friends!
Another good song for this list is the Rolling Stones, "Brown Sugar". Basically a song that covers everything from slave sale and rape to oral sex, drugs and other "taboo" subjects. The opening lyrics set the tone for the song, "Gold coast slave ship bound for cotton fields, Sold in a market down in New Orleans, Scarred old slaver knows he's doing alright, Hear him with the women just around midnight, Brown sugar how come you taste so good? Brown sugar just like a young girl should." So with those lyrics it always cracks me up when I see a high school or college cheer leading squad doing routines to this song. Seriously, I want to stand up and mock them!!
I never claimed to be bright! From time to time I can be down right stupid. The best part is when the song has been around for a long time and you know the song...you KNOW the lyrics. For some reason though you seem to ignore the meaning all together.

A night at the inn...
So, the nght at Joshua Tree is a memory! At least I have pictures again.
Only two changes since last year..this time it was me and my buddy Ryan (the man who introduced me to Gram Parsons) was along for the ride. It was nice to share the experience with someone who understood the importance of the room. Not saying that dad didn't get it ... but it was just a trip to the park and an old hotel room.
The other difference was Billy! Billy rocks! Sorry to say that we got Billy in trouble with his girlfriend.
We talked Gram, history, music, world events...oh and he got my Monty Python "huge tracts of land" comment.
All in all a great evening...gas scare aside!

Safe at Home...
Just booked my room back at the Joshua Tree Inn for this summer!
I am looking forward to spending another night in Room 8....the Gram Parsons room.
This time I will have my buddy Ryan (AKA the man who introduced me to Gram) along for the ride!
All I can say is...it will be sweet!
